IrlandaisHello everyone, I'm a native German speaker and a language freak. I've been working on my English intensively for several years now. Meanwhile, I think, it has improved a lot and I feel quite confident with it. But I'm still a learner, who makes mistakes. The grammar is still bothering me at times, because I learned most things by doing. Although the pronunciation of new words very often succeeds instinctively, that doesn't always work. I'd love to assist others with German in a conversational way to not get worse again, and to hone my language skills. I'm a huge fan of the Irish accents that are spoken more in the west and south of Ireland and around Dublin, but my own English is, I guess, a wild mix of everything from everywhere. I see English as a lingua franca, as kind of my door to the world, to other cultures. I love playing with language and language(s). I also like poetry, but don't know much of poetry in English yet. I do some sport, I love nature and walk my dog in every weather in nature. Besides that, my interests are manifold (I just lack the time to do everything as intensively as I would love to). Things I really enjoy include reading all kinds of books, writing, puzzling over life´s riddles and absurdities, going for walks or hikes, watching the leaves fall or the flowers blossom, listening to music (mostly various subgenres of Metal as well as Ambient, Nordic Folk and Stoner Rock, but I´m absolutely open to other genres), watching films /TV shows as well as getting to know interesting people and their stories. And of course, I have always loved learning languages.
However, as a rather introverted guy, I tend to be shy at first and can feel quite awkward, even anxious about making mistakes or generally making a fool of myself when talking in a foreign language. (Do any of you experience this contradiction, too – genuinely wanting to connect with people from all places and walks of life while having a hard time coming out of your shell?) This has kept me from practicing and learning for far too long. But now, I´ve decided to make a change and overcome my fear of writing in and speaking foreign languages. I have great joy and passion for the German language. It would be a pleasure for me to pass on my native language to others. I could help proofread texts, but my main focus would be practicing pronunciation, I’d prefer to use Discord!
I’d love to learn a few basic words in Chinese. I’d also like to learn a few words in Japanese, since one of my best friends here in Germany is Japanese. Also I would like to learn more about the daily life in countries on the continents of Asia or Australia. And since I’m a very outgoing person, I really enjoy meeting new people, in general. :-)
In my free time, I like going out with friends: grabbing drinks, hiking, going out to eat, and attending events, concerts etc.
I really enjoy playing computer games. I like reading, watching movies, music and cooking (I often try out new recipes from all over the world, which, I must admit, often ends in culinary disasters) :-)
